Abstract: Competency (competence) and core competency (core competence) of nurses refer to two interrelated but different concepts. Although the two have been widely studied in China, there are still many objections to their definitions, evaluation index systems and application connotation from different scholars. This article reviews the concept description, evaluation index construction and application status of competency (competence) and core competency (core competence) in the nursing field, analyzes their objections and reasons to provide thinking and reference for the further development and application of the two concepts in nursing.
