Factors influencing organizational citizenship behavior of nurses: a scoping review

Abstract: Objective: To summarize both domestic and international research on the factors influencing nurses' organizational citizenship behavior, and to provide insights for managers to enhance nurses' work enthusiasm and improve organizational performance. Methods: A systematic search was conducted by searching domestic and international databases to identify studies on nurses' organizational citizenship behavior. The search covered the period from the establishment of the databases up to April 1, 2024. Two researchers independently screened the literature and extracted the relevant data. Results: A total of 53 articles were included, 39 in English and 14 in Chinese, published from 2011 to 2024, all of which were cross-sectional surveys. The results of the inclusion showed that nurses' organizational citizenship behavior were influenced by a variety of factors, could be summarized into six aspects: sociodemographic factors, psychological factors, work related factors, organizational factors, leadership related factors and social factors. Conclusion: Understanding the multi-level influencing factors is crucial for enhancing nurses' organizational citizenship behavior and improving the work environment. It is necessary to explore the dynamic relationships among various influencing factors in depth to identify key driving factors and develop more effective management strategies.
