Abstract: Objective: To explore the effect of cluster nursing on Deep Vein Thrombosis of lower extremity among elderly patients in the orthopaedic department. Methods: We recruited and divided major operation patients in our department into control group from January to June, 2014 and study group from July to December, 2014 with 70 patients in each group. The control group received routine care, while the study group with 67 patients finishing the whole intervention adopt cluster nursing management in addition to routine care. We compared the incidence of Deep Vein Thrombosis of lower extremity between the patients in two groups. Results: The incidence of Deep Vein Thrombosis of lower extremity was significantly lower in study group than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusions: Cluster nursing could reduce the incidence of Deep Vein Thrombosis of lower extremity effectively and enhance the patients' rehabilitation.
