Abstract: Objective: To investigate the effects of group psychological therapy in orientation of cognitive and behavior on depression for empty nester. Method: Totally 141 empty nesters were recruited, they accepted 8 sessions of group psychological therapy. Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS) was used to assess the effect after intervention. Results:The SDS scores respectively were (39.49±10.16) and (36.43±11.23) before and after intervention. The detection rates of mild depression and moderate-severe depression were 22.7% and 29.8% respectively before intervention, the detection rates of mild depression and moderate-severe depression were 23.4% and 23.4% respectively after intervention. There were statistical significance in difference of the scores of depression and its detection rate before and after intervention(P<0.001). Conclusion: Depression is a common negative emotion among empty nester, and group psychological intervention can improve the depression of empty nester.
