Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the effects of the training of new nurses' core ability based on the Competency Inventory for Registered Nurse (CIRN) by Liu Ming. Methods: Totally 91 new nurses who were employed by a tertiary hospital in 2013 were included in this study. They had received the training based on CIRN for one year. Self-assessments of their core ability before and after the training were collected and analyzed. Results: After the training, the general score and the score in each dimension were all significantly higher than before, especially the ability in clinical nursing, critical thinking, research, teaching and consultation (P<0.05). Conclusion: The training based on CIRN could improve the core ability of new nurses.
