Abstract: Objective: To investigate The prevalence of cognition and practice in clinical care decision making among nurses in a Tertiary hospital in Shanghai in order to promote Evidence-based Nursing practice. Methods: A total of 336 nurses were surveyed by filling out the EBM practice questionnaires designed by the team, including personal information,cognition and practice, article searching and data analysis skills and training needs. Results: Only 11.9% of nurses apply Evidence Based practice when a clinical problem surface; 45.5% nurses are not capable of using Chinese articles database and 84.8% are not capable of using the English article database. The main challenges include the following: no clue on how to find evidenced based data (58.9%); no clue on how to refine and process information (46.4%) ; lack of the time (44.1%).Conclusions: There is considerable lack of knowledge among nurses in Evidenced Based Practice, improvement should be focused on the foundation of the knowledge and practical skills among nurses and promote better clinical environment for nurses to get familiar to Evidenced-based Practice.
