Evidence summary for percutaneous cable wound care in patients with implanted Left Ventricular Assist Device

Abstract: Objective: To summarize the evidence of percutaneous cable wound care after Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implantation in order to provide evidence-based basis for clinical practice. Methods: The related guidelines, systematic reviews, clinical decisions, expert consensus, randomized controlled trials, evidence summary, and best practices of percutaneous wound care after LVAD implantation were systematically searched in domestic and foreign databases. The search period was from the database establishment to February 1, 2024. Evidence was aggregated by subject classification. Results: A total of 11 articles were included, including 3 guidelines, 3 expert consensus, 4 systematic reviews, and 1 randomized controlled trial. Combined with expert judgment, 20 pieces of evidence were summarized, including 5 aspects: multidisciplinary teamwork, wound assessment, wound maintenance, wound infection prevention and treatment, and education and training. Conclusion: This study comprehensively summarizes the evidence of percutaneous cable wound care in patients after LVAD implantation, and provides a basis for clinical personnel to standardize percutaneous cable wound management. We suggest that clinical personnel should transform the evidence according to the clinical situation, following the individualization principles, and obtaining patients' wishes.
