Abstract: Objective: To construct the competency training system for pain specialist nurses in Zhejiang province, and to explore its practical effect. Methods: Based on the core competencies of pain care nursing and the post competence model, a capability training system for pain specialist nurses in Zhejiang province was established and applied in 4 training sessions from January 2020 to August 2023. Training effectiveness were evaluated using comprehensive quantitative assessments, clinical practice core competencies scores, and post-training work engagement and satisfaction with the program. Results: The training system for pain specialist nurses consisted of modules on theoretical knowledge, clinical skills, teaching ability, quality improvement, and research ability, with a total of 183 specialized nurses trained. The knowledge score was 91.45±8.38, the first time pass rate in clinical skill exam was 97.81%, the scores of clinical practice core competencies was significantly improved (P<0.001), and the trainees' satisfaction with training was 94.25±9.21. Conclusion: This training system helps to enhance the competency of pain specialist nurses in Zhejiang province and provides sustainable human resources support for the long-term development of pain care nursing.
