Abstract: Objective: To construct an information system for early warning of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) in hospitalized patients, so as to improve medical staff?'s awareness and ability of prevention and treatment of VTE to offer timely intervention to high-risk patients. Methods: By setting up a multidisciplinary VTE prevention and treatment working group, the information-based VTE early warning system was built to connect medical and nursing electronic record systems, thus ensure automatic risk assessment and early warning, hierarchical prevention and treatment assisted decision-making, VTE quality control and other functions, which altogether guaranteed the steady implementation of clinical VTE prevention and treatment both efficiently and conveniently. Results: Since the application of the VTE early warning information system, VTE risk assessment had been given to all the hospitalized patients with the assessment rate reaching 100.00%. The prevention rates of basic, physical and drug preventive measures in high-risk patients increased significantly (P<0.001). Among the four dimensions of user experience evaluation of the information system, the dimension of early and timely warning scored the highest (9.16±2.79). Conclusion: The establishment and application of the VTE early warning information system for inpatients can booster effective and high-quality prevention and treatment of VTE in hospital to improve patients' outcomes and better safeguard their safety and upgrade healthcare.
