Abstract: Community health service, as a critical component of the primary healthcare system, relies heavily on community nurses as essential human resources. These nurses are responsible for delivering primary care and public health services throughout the entire life cycle and health continuum of individuals, families, and communities. The core competencies of community nurses directly determine the quality of community health services and serve as a cornerstone for maintaining the competitiveness and innovation capacity of the nursing profession. This paper reviews the development of the concept of nursing core competencies and provides an overview of domestic and international research on the core competencies of community nurses. The review aims to provide theoretical foundations for cultivating community nursing talents based on competency-oriented approaches in China.
