Abstract: Objective: To investigate the time and place distribution characteristics of falls from the adverse events report system. Methods: All of the fall events which were reported on the reporting platform from a tertiary grade A hospital in Zhengzhou from 2011 to 2015 were analyzed. Results: 60.0% fall happened in the bathroom, and 50.2% of falls happened during the night shift. The most common primary disease were tumor related diseases, circulatory system disease, endocrine, nutritional and metabolic disease. The peak occurrence periods were 7:00 to 9:00, 11:00 to 13:00, and 5:00 to 7:00. Most falls led to mild injury, the injury which caused by fall in the bathroom was much heavier than that in other places (P<0.05). Conclusion: Medical staff should strengthen safety management during night and the peak fall risk time, pay close attention on the patients' transfer, the effect of health education and the patients' fall preventive behaviors, and then constantly improve patients' awareness and compliance of fall prevention.
