Abstract: Objective: To explore the incidence of aberrant motor behavior and its influencing factors among the elderly with dementia in nursing homes, providing a scientific foundation for formulating effective intervention measures. Methods: From December 2023 to May 2024, 248 cases of senior dementia patients in 5 nursing homes in Nanning were selected by convenience sampling method to collect the general information questionnaire, Aberrant Motor Behavior Subscale of the Neuropsychiatric Inventory and the Mini-Mental State Examination. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed using chi-square tests and binary Logistic regression analysis. Results: The incidence of aberrant motor behavior in this population was 58.87%, and the overall severity score of aberrant motor behavior was 6.00 (4.00, 12.00). Logistic regression analysis results showed that being widowed, vascular dementia, caregivers having not received relevant training and no easily understandable calendars, schedules, or directional signs in the environment were the risk factors of aberrant motor behavior (P<0.05). Conclusion: The incidence and overall severity of aberrant motor behavior among the elderly with dementia in nursing homes are relatively high. Thus in the future, it is imperative to strengthen the assessment of this high-risk population and formulate visual signs-related environmental intervention strategies to mitigate the risk of aberrant motor behavior.
