  • Online:2017-10-25 Published:2017-10-25

Abstract: Objective: To investigate undergraduate nursing students' cognition level and attitude towards hospice care, and to provide references for developing hospice care course in medical colleges and schools. Methods: Self-designed questionnaire survey was conducted in 1 156 undergraduate nursing students in Guangxi. Results: The average score of hospice knowledge was 16.10±5.04 with the average accuracy 61.8%. Only 19.8% of the students would like to be engaged in hospice care career in the future. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that schools, grades, gender, origin and religious beliefs were influencing factors on cognition degree. Logistic regression model showed that the experience of talking about death with family members and the death of family members affect their attitude towards hospice care. Conclusion: The current cognition degree of hospice care among the undergraduate nursing students in Guangxi is not high. The majority are holding negative or skeptical attitude towards the development of hospice care. Therefore, we should improve the hospice care development by finding out the influencing factors to strengthen the hospice care education and to renew their concepts among undergraduate nursing students.
